Wine Cabinets page not being crawled

Despite updating the content on my wine cabinets page on VatRats I noticed this morning that it hasn’t been crawled by google since 24th October.

On close inspection I noticed I hadn’t updated the content on a number of other pages and had 4 or 5 virtually blank pages, I also noticed I wasn’t linking to the wine cabinets page from the wine articles section.

This is mainly due to the fact I quickly set the structure of Vat Rats up back in October but then got distracted and never added the actual content.

Hopefully, over the next few days I will add the content, interlink the pages a bit more and see if I can get google crawling the site a bit more frequently.

Top 10 Mobile Phones Goes HandHeld

I’ve had a web page up for about 3 or 4 years now displaying my list of Top 10 Mobile phones which I don’t really do anything with apart from updating the list every now and then.

Checking in my stats recently I have noticed an increasing number of visitors are using mobile phones and handheld devices when viewing the page so with this in mind I have just created a new version of my top 10 mobile phones page using an alternative stylesheet, a slightly different layout and no images.

Hopefully, google won’t flag it as duplicate content, as it isn’t there to deceive in any way but is there to make it more convenient for users of handheld devices and mobile phones.

Spot the Volleyball Win a Supercar

To those of you fed up of studying photos of grubby footballers when doing your spot the ball competitions we have some great news!

Best Of The Best have just introduced a great new game which not only gives you the opportunity to win a supercar but also allows you to legitimately ogle the beach beauties playing Volleyball in Southern California.

Thats right! Best of the best have launced a spot the volleyball competition offering an Audi R8, Ferrari F430, Aston Martin DB9 or choice of other supercars as the main prize.

Word of advice when playing though, Don’t get distracted.

Disability News

Whilst updating my WordPress blogs after  the recent scare about security issues I came across an old one which I set up a couple of years ago for Disability News but then forgot all about.

It was located in a directory on one of my wheelchair ramps sites, it only consisted of about 2 pages, 3 or 4 posts and was only in the original WordPress them, not adapted in anyway.

As I was updating WordPress anyway, I set up a new theme then re-skinned it to look nicer and be more search engine friendly.

Once I had it st up better I made 3 or 4 posts and was surprised to see they were all indexed by Google within minutes.

Over the coming weeks I will be adding more disability related content and try to keep it regularly updated.

Mortgage Brokers in Dorset

I’ve been having one of those problems we have when optimising every now and then where an older page on a site is outranking a newer page for the target phrase.

I set up a page for mortgage brokers in Dorset for someone a couple of years ago but since then they have changed the name they trade under. With this in mind, we set up a new page targetting mortgage brokers in Poole but left the old pager up as well.

Jump forward a couple of months and the old page is still top 3 for mortgage brokers in Dorset, but no sign of the new page.

It looks like the old problem of an old established page blocking a new page appearing for the same phrase.

In the past when this happens I either deoptimise the old page or delete it completely in the hope the new page will replace it in the SERPs, but this time because the old page is for the same business I have the option of simply replacing the old content with the new, the only problem with this is that the old name is used in the URL.
