SEO Competitions – SERPs Competition
A SERPS Competition was a game often organised by SEO forums where a target word or phrase was set and the idea of the game was to see who could rank highest for the word or phrase within a set time period.
The reason they were called SERPs competitions is because SERP is an acronym of Search Engine Results Page – SERPs
I took part in a number of SEO Competitions between 2003 and 2007 which I have listed below
SERPs was one of the first SEO Competitions I took part in.
The SERPs Competition was organised and run by the members of the Usenet Newsgroup Alt.Internet.Search-Engines back in 2003 2004
The main idea of the SERPS Competition was to see who could rank highest in Google for the word SERPS within one month.
This SERPs page has now been moved on to the WordPress system and when I find the time I will load all 30 SERPs pages which talk more about the competition.
Nigritude Ultramarine was an early SEO competition organised by SEO forum SearchGuild and sponsored by the Australian affiliate network Dark Blue (hence the title, Nigritude Ultramarine)
The general idea of the Nigritude Ultramarine competition was to rank highest in Google for the keywords Nigritude Ultramarine on a specific end date.
Mangeur de Cigogne
Mangeur de Cigogne was an early SEO Contest where the aim of the game was to see who could rank highest for Mangeur de Cigogne within a 2 month period.
As the name suggests, Mangeur de Cigogne was a French Search engine optimisation competition organised by promoweb
Sim64 (TJ) was one of the few English entries and despite the language barrier made some good friends.
The phrase mangeur de cigogne (“Stork eater” in English) was chosen and the timeframe was 2 months and ended on 15th June 2004
V7ndotcom Elursrebmem The V7ndotcom Elursrebmem competition was one of the later SEO competitions organised by the SEO and Marketing forum V7N
I never really took part in this one other than putting up a page which deliberately had no on page optimisation, running some spoof AdWords campaigns and setting up some links to the French Dark SEO team who I had made friends with during the earlier mangeur de cigogne competition.
SEO Hero was the target phrase in the latest SEO competition set up by WiX
A bit strange this one, I set up Wix SEO Hero Search tool that allows you to set which version of Google to use when searching for SEO Hero and also allows you to set where you want Google to think you are searching from and also included a SEO Hero News A section where I was posting news on the SEO Hero Contest and also keeping an online diary [now mostly deleted].
