1st June 2023 marks the 60th anniversary of the publication of Stig of the Dump by Clive King

Stig of the Dump is a children’s novel by Clive King which was first published in the United Kingdom in 1963. It is regarded as a modern children’s classic and is often read in schools.

Stig of the Dump tells the story of Barney, a young boy who falls into a disused chalk-pit and meets Stig, a caveman who lives in the dump.

The book has been illustrated by Edward Ardizzone and has been twice adapted for television, in 1981 and in 2002.
